Ek Karma

Eating healthy — my diet

Continuing with my healthy talk I wanted to also discuss my diet plan. I have read a lot about what people eat and sometimes I have been confused. I find it difficult to comprehend what needs to be done. I wanted to change that and provide a simple plan, my plan what works for me may not work for everyone but no harm in talking about it.

I want to Discuss about eating healthy and balanced diets. Eating a healthy and balanced diet is essential for maintaining good health and preventing chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. A balanced diet includes a variety of foods from all food groups, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats.

When it comes to what I eat, I try to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables every day. I also include lean proteins such as chicken, and beans in my diet. Whole grains are an important part of my diet, and I try to limit my intake of processed foods and sugary drinks.

In addition to a healthy diet, I also make sure to get enough exercise every day. Exercise helps me maintain a healthy weight and reduces my risk of chronic diseases. I try to include physical activity such as walking, running, or yoga in my daily routine.

Breakfast

Breakfast for me is the most important meal of the day. I am not a proponent of skipping breakfast. I know a lot of people who skip breakfast but I feel this is the meal that you should have and classify as the most important one in your day. Your body is already part of a long fast and if you are doing intermittent fasting by skipping dinner then it becomes even more important.

For breakfast, we should plan it in such a way that we eat a properly balanced diet, a little carb, and plenty of protein. I also say if you are not lactose intolerant then include a glass of milk in your diet. Besides calcium, your body needs it has protein and a lot of other stuff needed by us.

I do not want to skip carbs completely so having oats fulfills that part too. Not too carbs heavy and is very good for your health. You can either have rolled oats with milk or put some water and heat it in the microwave for 2 min. I go with overnight-soaked oats. I take a cup of oats in a mason jar and put a big, heaped spoon of protein powder in it. I add some blueberries and half a banana to it. If you like dates you can also add a couple of dates to it. I don’t add any sugar to it as the protein powder and dates provide sweetness to it. Some days I add a piece of bread to it Nutella if I want to indulge myself occasionally.

Lunch

Lunch is my usual stuff, some rice with cooked lentils along with cooked vegetables or I eat the cooked vegetables and lentils with some rotis. This is what I have been eating since my childhood and I continue with it. I would suggest having the same for all people. Eat what your body is used to since childhood and reduce the quantity if you feel that it has a lot of carbs. I don’t eat the same amount of rice now that I used to eat earlier in my student life but the diet is the same. To satisfy my sweet tooth I eat something at the end, a very small amount of whatever sweet I can find in the house.

Dinner

These days I don’t eat dinner as part of my intermittent fasting process. Earlier when I used to have one, I used to keep it light. Dinner is supposed to be the lightest meal that one should have. Some days I would take a smoothie or a soup. On some days I would take a light meal of lentils and cooked vegetables with no additional carbs. Some days I would bake vegetables like broccoli, cottage cheese, cauliflower, and sweet potato. Just sauté them with olive oil and a little bit of salt. Add Italian seasoning or any other seasoning according to your taste.

The most important thing is to look at what you eat. Don’t count the calories but have a sufficient fasting period where your body is not in a flighting mode for the extra calories that it must tackle. Our body must take care of the food we eat and convert it into glucose. If we are not spending that much energy that gets stored inside our body either inside our body over our liver and other organs or in our tummy.

In conclusion, eating a healthy and balanced diet is crucial for maintaining good health. Make sure to have the balanced intake of necessary nutrition. There are many things that the body requires. Look at what your body needs and focus on what goes inside you. What you eat is what your body consumes for its own needs. By including a variety of foods from all food groups and limiting processed foods and sugary drinks, we can prevent chronic diseases and improve our overall well-being.
